Peking University 2026 International Earth Sciences Summer School
01 Program Features
Earth sciences explore the origins of the Earth and the mysteries of the cosmos, rooted in the terrestrial world while reaching for deep space. As a core fundamental discipline, it unravels the secrets of planetary habitability, addresses resource and environmental challenges, and supports the development of a space power.
Peking University boasts a long-standing legacy in earth science education. The Department of Geology was founded at the Imperial University of Peking in 1909, nurtured by eminent geologists including Ding Wenjiang and Li Siguang, making it the cradle of modern geological education in China. In 2001, Peking University integrated its strengths in geology, geophysics, space physics, remote sensing, and GIS to establish the School of Earth and Space Sciences, marking a new era of interdisciplinary development.
Peking University’s earth sciences rank among the world’s elite, being one of the university’s first disciplines to enter the top 1‰ globally in the ESI rankings. In the 2024 U.S. News & World Report Global University Subject Rankings, it is 8th worldwide and 1st among comprehensive universities in Asia.
To advance in-depth China-Russia cooperation in earth sciences, implement national strategies for Sino-Russian scientific, technological, and cultural cooperation, and cultivate top-tier talents with global vision, interdisciplinary literacy, and research innovation capabilities, Peking University’s School of Earth and Space Sciences, in collaboration with the School of Urban and Environmental Sciences, School of Environmental Science and Engineering, School of Physics, and China-Russia Institute of Fundamental Sciences, proudly presents the 2026 International Summer School in Earth Sciences.
Leveraging the mature cooperation mechanism of the Peking University China-Russia Earth Science Center, the program adopts a "General Academic Literacy + Disciplinary Depth" model.
