Peking University Summer Field Course(2026)
Geological Excursion in Guizhou on Sedimentology, stratigraphy and Paleontology
01 Program Features
Peking University boasts a profound and enduring heritage in geoscience education. The Department of Geology of the Imperial University of Peking was formally founded in 1909. Pioneering geologists including Ding Wenjiang and Li Siguang devoted themselves to laying its academic foundation, making this institution the cradle of modern geological education in China. In 2001, Peking University integrated its flagship disciplines covering geology, geophysics, space physics, remote sensing, and geographic information science to establish the School of Earth and Space Sciences. This move fostered interdisciplinary integration across geoscience and ushered the university’s geoscience programs into a new era of development.
In January 2025, the China-Russia Institute of Basic Sciences and its Geoscience Basic Research Center were officially inaugurated, laying a solid foundation for long-term in-depth cooperation between China and Russia in frontier geoscience fields. To build a communication platform for young geoscientists, advance academic exchanges in fundamental disciplines such as sedimentology, stratigraphy, and paleontology, consolidate long-term bilateral geoscience cooperation, and cultivate interdisciplinary geoscience talents of the new era with global vision, the School of Earth and Space Sciences, Peking University is organizing Peking University Summer Field Course(2026)Geological Excursion in Guizhou on Sedimentology, stratigraphy and Paleontology.
This program is a core undergraduate field course of Peking University. Adopting an integrated teaching model combining field observation, group seminars, and academic presentations, it brings together Chinese and Russian students to carry out joint geological surveys at multiple sites across Guizhou Province. Designed as an exchange platform for young geoscientists from both nations, this program enables participants to consolidate fundamental geological theories, systematically grasp the full geological evolution of the Yangtze Block in South China and its adjacent regions, master standard field geological techniques, and fully sharpen their practical field skills and overall research proficiency.
